Introducing to the Graphic Design Industry

Image Retouch Technique



# Retouch Image:

  1. 1.       Spot Healing Brush Tool

[ = The spot healing brush is the default healing tool in Photoshop and can be used to clone areas from an image and blend the pixels from the sampled area seamlessly with the target area.]

[ = The Healing Brush Tool retouches image using sampled pixels or pattern.]

[ = The Patch Tool is part of the healing brush set of tools]

[ +  +  = The Blur Tool makes images obscure and softens an image making it look out of focus with a blur effect. The Sharpen Tool goes the other way and makes an image clearer, it sharpens around the edges of an image. Then we have the Smudge Tool which doesn’t blur or sharpen, instead what this tool does is smudge and bump pixels out of place.]


  1. 8.       Dodge ,Burn and Sponge Tools

[ = Dodge Tool: is use to lightning the color of particular area of an image.

     = Burn Tool: by the name you can understand it will dark the color shade.

     = Sponge Tool: by this you can adjust saturation on different areas of your image. it”s working is same as any other brush tool]

[ = Use this tool to restore a portion of an image to an earlier state, while leaving the rest of the modified image alone.]

  1. 1.       Gradient Tool

[ = The Gradient tool can be used to draw linear, radial, angular, reflected or diamond gradients.         Gradient also be applied as fill layers in Photoshop.]

Advanced Image Manipulation Technique



  1. 1.       Eraser Tools

[ = The eraser is basically a brush which erases pixels as you drag it across the image..]


  1. 2.       Layer Lock

[ = You can also choose Layer → Lock Layers or select Lock Layers from the Layers panel menu.

You have layer groups, you can choose Layer → Lock All Layers in Group or select Lock All Layers in Group from the Layers panel menu.]


  1. 3.       Layer Merge

[Combines visible, linked, or adjacent layers into a single layer.]


  1. 4.       Layer Mode

[Only the Normal, Dissolve, Darken, Multiply, Lighten, Linear Dodge (Add), Difference, Hue, Saturation, Color, Luminosity, Lighter Color, and Darker Color blending modes are available ] 


  1. 5.       Group and Ungroup

[ = 1. Locate the "Layers" panel. This is typically near the right side of Photoshop, but the location can vary depending on your preferences. If the Layers panel is not open, click on "Window" in the menu bar and choose "Layers" to open the panel.

2. Click on the group of layers that you want to ungroup. Click the "Layer" menu, and choose "Ungroup Layers."

3. Reselect the layers, select the "Layer" menu and click "Group Layers" if you change your mind and want to regroup the layers.]


  1. 6.       Opacity and Fill

[ = When we set the Fill value,only painted pixels and vector items are affected,layer styles and blending mode remain same. A Fill value and blending mode for a layer and only the fill pixels inside the shape are affected-not the layer styles applied to the layer.The Opacity option to adjust transparency both the shape and effects are affected.]


  1. 7.       Masking

[In the Layers panel, select the layer or group. Select the area in the image, and do one of the following: Click the New Layer Mask     button in the Layers panel to create a mask that reveals the selection.]


  1. 8.       Clipping Mask

[A clipping mask, the bottom most layer (also known as the base layer) acts as a mask for the layers above it. The layers in the group clip to the areas of the base layer and don’t show over the transparent areas of the base layer.]

[You set blending options choosing Object > Right Click > Blend Options. To change options for an existing blend, select the blended object first.]

[The Adjustment Layers in Photoshop are a group of a super useful, non-destructive image editing tools that add color and tonal adjustments to your image without permanently changing its pixels. With the adjustment layers, you can edit and discard your adjustments or restore your original image at any time..]


  1. 3.       Smart Layer

[If you want to convert a layer into a Smart Object, follow these steps:

Select your desired layer in the Layers panel. Choose Layer → Smart Object s→ Convert to Smart Object. You can also select the command from the Layers panel menu.]


  1. 4.       Link Layer

[Select the layers or groups in the Layers panel. Click the link icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. To unlink layers do one of the following: Select a linked layer, and click the link icon. To temporarily disable the linked layer, Shift-click the Link icon for the linked layer.] 


  1. 5.       Align and Distribute

[The ability to align and distribute your layers. These commands can be especially useful when you need to align items such as navigation buttons on a web page mock-up or a row of headshots for a corporate publication. Follow these steps to align and distribute your layers.]


  1. 6.       Content Aware Scale

 [Choose your desired layer in the Layers panel. Choose Edit→Content-Aware Scale.

Specify your options on the Options bar as follows: Click and drag one of the handles of the scale box that surrounds your layer or selection to resize your image.]


  1. 7.       Puppet Wrap

[Select your desired layer in the Layers panel. Choose Edit → Puppet Warp. On the Options bar, specify your desired settings: On your image, click to add a pin to an area you want to distort or anchor. Drag a selected pin to warp the mesh.]


  1. 8.       Perspective Wrap

[Before you adjust perspective, you must define the planes of the architecture in the image:

Open the image in Photoshop. Choose Edit > Perspective Warp. Review the onscreen tip and close it.

Draw quads along the planes of the architecture in the image. ]

Advanced Tools Use 01



  1. 1.       Chanel

[A channel is like a normal Photoshop panel which stores the color information of your Photoshop document in the form of layers. If you have selected RGB mode than your channel panel will show 4 channel by default (RGB, red, green and blue) and if you have selected CMYK mode than your channel panel will show 5 channel by default (CMYK, cyan, magenta, green and black). You can change the image mode to RGB by going to image>mode>RGB and to CMYK by going to image>mode>CMYK.]


  1. 2.       Alpha Chanel

[When you create a mask, you isolate and protect areas of an image as you apply color changes, filters, or other effects to the rest of the image. Use masks for complex image editing such as gradually applying color or filter effects to an image.]


  1. Refine edge

[Select the part of the image using any selection tool. Click on refine edge tool from the option bar or press Ctrl+Alt+R Turn on smart radius and adjust the radius. Adjust the smooth, feather, contrast and shift edge for the perfect result.]


  1. 4.       Action

[In the Actions panel, click the panel pop-up menu arrow and select Load Actions. In the Open dialog box, Photoshop opens the Actions folder in the Presets folder.]
